Chinese Box Turtle
High arched shell to 6.7 inches (17 cm). Carapace is usually dark brown with a bright yellow vertebral stripe, reddish-brown blotches on the pleurals and vertebrals, and reddish-brown or yellow blotches along the outer border of the marginals. Plastron is brown or black. Head is gray to light green dorsally with a broad yellow stripe from orbit to neck. Upper jaws and sides of head are yellow and chin is pink or yellow. Heels of hind feet are yellow. Forelimbs are covered with large scales. |
